Welcome to Ms. Wright's studio where Kindergarten through third grade students attend art class once per week for 40 minutes. We explore different cultures, learn about various artists through history, and experiment and create with many different forms of art media.

Kindergarten Paper Relief Sculptures

In art class the students are learning about different kinds of sculpture.  A sculpture is a work of art that is not flat.  It can be viewed from more than one side.   This project focused on relief sculpture, which is a sculpture that projects outwards or inwards from a flat surface.  They used strips of paper to make various lines: curves (slides and bends) and angled (accordion folds).

They envisioned themselves walking around, through and over their sculptures, like a playground.  Our school hopes to build a brand new playground for our students.  This project really got the students excited about it!

This student has already put on a slide, tunnel and is now working on a set of stairs.
The stairs were made with an accordion fold technique.
All together!
